About Me

I’ve been obsessed with making music since I was ten years old, the day I picked up my first real guitar and started playing trumpet. At the time, my goal was simple: become the fastest guitar player in the world. It didn’t take long to realize there would always be someone faster and that speed alone isn’t what truly connects with people.

By high school, I knew music wasn’t just something I enjoyed, it was what I was meant to do. Around that same time, I bought my first USB microphone, downloaded recording software I barely understood, and started making demos. I didn’t know much about engineering yet, but I was hooked on the process of turning ideas into something you could actually hear and feel.

I started college pursuing trumpet performance and jazz guitar, but quickly realized my passion wasn’t the stage, it was the studio. After stepping away, I enrolled in the Music Technology program at Kent State University at Stark, and that’s where everything clicked.

The studio became home.

Recording artists. Writing songs. Producing music. Experimenting with new sounds. I was all in. Along the way, I studied classical composition, took voice lessons, even spent a semester learning sitar, and built creative relationships with collaborators I still work with today.

Today, through Steve Beck Studios in Akron, I focus on creating a space where artists feel comfortable, confident, and inspired to do their best work. Whether you’re stepping into a studio for the first time or you’ve been recording for years, my goal is the same: serve the song and help you bring your vision to life.

When I’m not in the studio, I teach music lessons at Woodsys Music in Kent, perform with my bands Sproot and Rocks and Roots, or relax at home with my wife, Rachel, searching for the next show to binge.

For me, this isn’t just a job. It’s what I’ve loved since day one and I still feel that same excitement every time I hit record.

The Studio

I have had some version of a home studio since 2012. It started in my high school bedroom with a USB microphone, a guitar amp, and a cheap keyboard. From there, I upgraded to a MacBook, added a couple of microphones and an interface, and set everything up in the living room of my first apartment. What began as a simple demo setup slowly turned into something much more serious as I became increasingly focused on sound quality, workflow, and creating a space where ideas could come to life.

In 2022, my wife and I bought our first home and I finally had the opportunity to build a dedicated studio space. I converted half of the basement into what is now the studio. It originally was a completely open cave like basement, but with a lot of hard work and some much appreciated help from my father in law, Louis Russo, we framed walls, installed a proper ceiling, and even finished the bathroom that once consisted of little more than a lonely toilet under the stairs. What started as raw concrete is now a fully realized creative environment.

Today the studio features a control room and a live room. The control room is where I produce, mix, and run sessions, while the live room is designed specifically for tracking vocals and instruments. Both spaces are treated with acoustic panels and are largely isolated from the outside world, creating a focused and comfortable recording environment. The studio is capable of recording up to sixteen tracks at once and is equipped with a collection of quality microphones and gear that allow sessions to run smoothly and sound great from the very first take. Most importantly, it is a space built to feel inspiring, relaxed, and ready for creativity.
